This workshop is a unique blend of travel, street, documentary and landscape photography - in one of Europe’s most beguiling cities.
About the workshop
Lovely Lisbon
Lisbon is charismatic, characterful, eccentric and utterly gorgeous. And it’s one of the most photogenic cities we visit. It has a Latin American vibe, with interesting architecture (old and new), charming streets, warm people, amazing light and of course, some stunning shooting locations. If you’re into travel or street photography you couldn’t wish for more.
The best of street & travel photography
We know the city exceptionally well and between us we run 4-5 photography workshops in Lisbon every year Our workshops combine street / documentary shooting and travel photography, with expert guidance all the way.
We’ll spend much of our time together exploring the real, hidden Lisbon with some carefully curated shooting locations and great stop-off places for a well-earned drink or bite to eat.
Your tutors / guides
Brian and Chris are both professional photographers and skilled communicators and teachers. Each has much experience running photographic workshops and are both Fujifilm Ambassadors and can help you get the most from the Fujifilm system. But don’t worry if you shoot with another system, this workshop is designed to help you improve your photographic skills whichever kit you use. See our profiles for more details.
Small group, individual attention
You will be in a small group (maximum of 10 participants but split into 2 groups of 5) so there will be ample opportunity for one-to-one discussion, tuition and mentoring. Your workshop will be immersive, inspiring and great fun. The experience will challenge you, stretch you and will elevate your photography.

The weather is April is usually just right - warm and sunny but not too hot. The monthly averages are:

What will you learn?
We will work on techniques for exposure, focusing and composition; learn how to spot an opportunity for a unique picture; discover how to work with great light and become a master of it; build your confidence as a street photographer; perfect your digital workflow.
We will also cover use of filters, long exposure, blue hour, sunrise and sunset photography as well as creative techniques such as Intentional Camera Movement and Multiple Exposure. Most of all, you will discover new ways of telling the story of your travels through great images. We will be doing lots of structured shooting and you will receive coaching, mentoring and constant feedback from your course leaders, Brian Lloyd Duckett and Chris Upton.
Experience / difficulty level
Level of physical difficulty: 3 out of 5 (moderate). Lisbon has lots of steps and hills and there is a lot of walking on this tour. We will be out most days for sunrise, come back to the hotel for breakfast to recharge and then out again for the rest of the day in order to make the most of the light.
